Typical RAM Usage of Services

This page is meant to serve as a reference to the amount of RAM typically used by default configured processes on VDS's. You can use this reference to plan out how much RAM you will need.

Note that these figures are rough estimates and do not take into account moderate to heavy usage or enabled plugins that may consume more RAM.

  • Apache 2.0 - 20 - 30 MiB
  • MySQL 40 - 120 MiB
  • 1 Mongrel Process with Ruby on Rails - 25 - 35 MiB
  • 1 Mongrel Process with Ruby on Rails + RMagick - 35 - 60 MiB
  • Lighttpd + 1 FastCGI Dispatcher with Ruby on Rails - 40 MiB
