[edit] What is FileZilla?
FileZilla is an open source FTP client that is lightweight and efficient. Unless you have a preference of another FTP client, we recommend it for our Windows users.
[edit] Where do I get it?
You can download FileZilla on their website located at http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/
[edit] Using FileZilla
When you launch FileZilla, you will be presented with an interface similar to below. In the screenshot, you'll see we've prefilled in some values in the top address bar, like FTP server address, username, password, and port 21. For your FTP server address, use www.yourwebsite.com, replacing yourwebsite.com with your actual domain name, or the IP of the server you were given in your welcome letter. The username and password are also in your welcome letter, and are the same you use for SSH and the control panel. Always use port 21.
[edit] Uploading Files
Once you're connected, you'll see a simple folder structure in the remote file window, similar to this:
In the above example, we've highlighted the public_html folder. This is the folder that contains the files of your website. Uploading files into this folder will make them appear on your website.
[edit] Troubleshooting
- If you are having trouble connecting or staying connected, make sure your firewall has an exception for FileZilla or allows outgoing FTP on port 21. Also, try toggling Passive Mode on and off (to see which one works better for your particular environment) by going to the "Edit" menu, clicking on "Settings", clicking on "Firewall Settings" and checking (or unchecking) Passive Mode.
- If you are having trouble deleting a file, it may be because it was created by the webserver and not you. In this case, try using the control panel's file manager to delete it, or you can have us delete the file. If you need us to delete the file, please specify the full path, your domain name, and username.
