Introduction

Microsoft Expression Web is Microsoft's replacement for Microsoft FrontPage. It it is similar to FrontPage but does not rely on FrontPage extensions and creates more standards-based websites.

You can find out more about Microsoft Expression Web and download a trial copy at the Expression Web website.

Using with an Existing Website

If you have an existing website you'd like to use with Microsoft Expression Web, it is very easy to import your site from FTP and publish back to it with FTP.

Start Expression Web and click on the File menu, select New, and click Web Site, as shown in this graphic:

You will likely be asked for your FTP login information. Put this information in when prompted. It is the same login and password you use for cPanel, FTP, and SSH.

On the next screen you have the option to add to the current site. If you are doing this for the first time, it is not recommend to do this, just uncheck this box and choose the folder you want the site to be downloaded to.

You will then be presented with all of your files. You can edit them at this point, or download them completely and then edit them with the syncronization options at the bottom, as shown here:

With these options you can keep your local and remote copies in sync.
